Concept Development

project 1: store design
Designing a Covid-conscious retail space for Alexander McQueen

Final Renderings

For this assignment, I was challenged with designing a COVID-friendly physical retail space. Inspired by the project below on this page, I chose to create a multidimensional retail store for Alexander McQueen. Both projects were created for my New Media Methods for Retail and Digital Spaces class. I designed my store renderings for this assignment in Roomstyler, and my pneumatic tube system and bags were created from scratch in Adobe Dimensions.

My main goal for this project was to figure out a way to minimize physical contact with garments and accessories as much as possible while still having a creative, exciting, and fully functional brick-and-mortar store. I executed this by creating a hands-free, pneumatic tube delivery system that connected to the stock room and would send garments to a waiting area where they could then be taken to the dressing room.

My store concept also includes a unique layout and design. One side would function as a museum, highlighting famous works by McQueen himself. This would transform this store into a multidimensional space that would draw in people not only to shop, but to wonder at some of the most iconic garments in fashion history.

The other half of the store would serve as a selling space for the current Alexander McQueen collections, allowing people to view the new and the old.

project 2: styling

Creating an Alexander McQueen Inspired Lookbook

For this project, we worked in groups and had to create a theatrical video lookbook for a brand of our choice. We selected Alexander McQueen and designed a themed lookbook based on his A/W 2007 collection titled: "In Memory of Elizabeth Howe, Salem 1692."

We were inspired by the fact that McQueen himself was a descendant of a Salem witch, and decided to use this historical truth to create the story behind our lookbook. We also drew inspiration from the popular TV show American Horror Story; specifically, season 3 "Coven." We used the Seven Wonders of Witchcraft featured in that season to drive the styling of the seven looks featured in our short film.

I worked as the stylist and assistant director for this project. I enjoyed sourcing the clothes, styling the seven looks, and using props to communicate the Seven Wonders in a visual way. I also worked closely with our editor to select the perfect shots and create the best transitions.

This lookbook was filmed in Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia.
